The Long Road Home

What’s our ambitious project all about? It’s a personal story about someone who works in Walnut Creek; and whom I've personally known for over 25 years. While this documentary film project spans a life over fifty years, the central theme of an immigrant overcoming hardship and challenges, and ultimately finding meaning and purpose could not be more relevant today. It’s called “The Long Road Home.”
 
Synopsis: Briefly, Long Nguyen was a young boy when he and his family fled Vietnam by boat with the fall of Saigon in 1975. He tragically lost his sister to pirates at sea before arriving in a refugee camp; then immigrating to the U.S. where he has grown up and lived in the Bay Area. Sadly, his dear wife died a dozen years ago, leaving him to raise their daughter alone and find renewed purpose.
 
How do I know this story? Long is my own barber with a small shop in Walnut Creek! Over many years, he has come to trust me with his story. So, I reached out to a professional filmmaker in the Bay Area, who was not only a former Finalist in our 10th Annual Short Film Competition; but who actually took first place for his film, “Voices” (interviews with Rossmoor women who’d dealt with abortion issues earlier in their lives).
 
The filmmaker, Randy Field, has accepted the challenge to produce this short film documentary, IF the “bare bones” production costs of $21,800 can be covered (cost details available upon request). I'm excited to report that of the date of this e-Blast (9/11/26) we have raised over 70% of our goal in pledges!

For everyone who may have the capacity and interest in supporting this project, we are requesting only a pledge of a specified dollar amount at this time; with your donation to be subsequently sent to Mountain Shadow only if we achieve our goal. Note: The donation to our non-profit organization would be tax deductible, of course.
